SaraT L. Mayer (ST) is President of The Clean Slate Initiative, where she drives organization-wide alignment and execution in service of CSI’s ambitious mission. As the CEO’s primary strategic and operational partner, ST translates the organization’s vision and goals into focused priorities, coordinated action, and measurable impact. She stewards the Executive Leadership Team, uniting the organization’s leadership to strengthen performance, accelerate impact, and build capacity for sustainable growth.
Before becoming President, ST was CSI's inaugural Chief Operating Officer, where she helped build the organization from a fiscally sponsored project into a full-fledged, multi-million-dollar organization delivering impact for tens of millions of people.
ST brings extensive experience as a policy generalist and organizational leader across government, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors. Before joining The Clean Slate Initiative, she led a consulting practice that helped early-stage nonprofit organizations and philanthropic institutions integrate strategy and delivery.
Previously, ST served as Chief Program Officer at Code for America, where she led the organization’s workforce, criminal justice, and safety-net portfolios at the intersection of policy and technology. Earlier in her career, she spent a decade with the San Mateo County Health System, including serving as Director of Public Health, Policy, and Planning. Her work focused on public clinic service delivery, social and land-use policy, and addressing health inequities.
ST has served on the boards of Friends of the Urban Forest, Housing Leadership Council, and Human Impact Partners. She has also held advisory roles with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative.
ST earned her bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in San Francisco with her wife and two children and can often be found walking the city’s many hills early in the morning.
