Oklahoma City, OK Sheena Meade, CEO of The Clean Slate Initiative, has released the following statement in response to Gov. Kevin Stitt signing SB 2030 into law today, which will amend the state’s Clean Slate Act and make the process for automated record sealing more streamlined and efficient.

“In 2022, Oklahoma made a promise that a past mistake would not become a life sentence to poverty and exclusion. Today, the state took a major step toward keeping that promise,” said Meade. “This law removes unnecessary barriers that have delayed relief for hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans who already earned their second chance. Once fully implemented, people will finally be able to apply for a job, secure stable housing, or provide for their family without an old record continuing to hold them back. That’s transformative — not only for individuals and families, but for Oklahoma’s economy and communities as a whole.”
