WATCH: "Celebrating Women's History Month: Trailblazers and Triumphs" — A Conversation with Women Leaders in the Legal Reform Movement

As Women’s History Month (WHM) comes to a close, we continue to reflect on women's incredible achievements and contributions to second chances across the country and how those contributions complement the work we do at The Clean Slate Initiative (CSI).

As part of CSI’s ongoing recognition of WHM, we hosted a webinar titled "Celebrating Women's History Month: Trailblazers and Triumphs." The webinar allowed me to facilitate a pivotal discussion surrounding the legal system reform and solutions provided by automatic record clearance.

Our invited guests were Amanda Renteria - CEO of Code for America, Dr. Topeka K. Sam - Founder of The Ladies of Hope Ministries, Lenore Anderson - Co-Founder and President of The Alliance for Safety & Justice, and Hillary Blout - Founder and Executive Director of For The People. We covered several topics related to our work — advocacy, experiences as women in leadership, and more.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Empowering Women: Our webinar highlighted the impact of women in driving change and advocating for reform within the criminal justice system.

  • Systemic Challenges: Speakers discussed systemic issues such as mass incarceration, racial bias, and disproportionate impacts on women, emphasizing the need for equitable solutions.

  • Amplifying Voices: This conversation showcased the power of amplifying women's voices in policy discussions, advocacy efforts, and more for transformative justice.

  • Call to Action: Participants were encouraged to stay engaged, support our panelist’s organizations that are continuously working towards reform, and empower women to lead in reshaping our justice system.

I left that webinar with the renewed sense that, together, we can continue to amplify women's voices beyond just one month of the year and drive positive change in legal system reform.

Tune in to the webinar on our YouTube channel, or watch the video below.

Thank you to our panelists and supporters for their commitment to second chances. Here's to a future where women's leadership transforms our justice system!
